Tambouris Efthimios

Tambouris Efthimios is Professor of Information Systems and eGovernance at the Department of Applied Informatics, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki. With over 18 years of experience, he has coordinated major EU research projects including EURO-CITI, eGOV, SmartGov, and OpenDataIntelligence, and authored 150+ scientific publications across books, journals, and conferences.

Research Focus: His pioneering work spans eGovernment architectures, Open Government Data implementation, eParticipation frameworks, and ethics in public-sector information systems. He specializes in bridging technical infrastructure with citizen engagement through Linked Open Data and interoperable eGov solutions, maintaining global recognition as a top-20 eGovernment researcher.

Scientific Recognition:

• Ranked 17th worldwide in eGovernment research productivity (2014)
• Core member of global eGovernment research community (2009)

Research Leadership: As coordinator of 15+ EU-funded projects and invited reviewer for European Commission, NSF (USA), and South African NRF, he drives innovation in digital governance. He chairs the International Conference on eParticipation (ePart) and co-edits special journal issues on open government.

Research Environment: Leads teams at University of Macedonia advancing eGov interoperability, while maintaining collaborations with CERTH/ITI and European policy bodies through ongoing projects like OpenDataIntelligence.
