Tamara Avant is a Professor of Psychology at Barton College. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a B.S. from Lander University. Her research focuses on the longitudinal study of children's social development, particularly those with shy/anxious personality types, and extends to predictors of college student retention during the first undergraduate year.
Dr. Avant teaches Introductory Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Statistics, and Experimental Psychology. Her work examines the interplay between classroom emotional climate and peer exclusion risks for solitary children. Contact: tavant@barton.edu
