Taina Välimaa is an Adjunct Professor and Senior University Lecturer at the University of Oulu, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and the Research Unit of Logopedics. Her work focuses on speech perception, auditory speech processing, and speech-language therapy.
Her research addresses communication challenges in hard-of-hearing individuals, including those using hearing aids or cochlear implants. She is also engaged in bilingual language acquisition studies and has participated in the COST Action IS0804. Välimaa has been a visiting scholar at Purdue University (2013) and collaborates across disciplines such as clinical medicine, audiology, phonetics, and psychology.
As a certified speech-language therapist (SLT), she actively develops auditory speech perception assessment methods and contributes to multidisciplinary research projects integrating technology and clinical approaches.
