Taha Hussein Rassem

Dr. Taha Hussein Rassem is a Senior Lecturer in Computing at the School of Computer Science and Informatics, De Montfort University, UK, within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering (Imaging) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, an M.Tech in Computer Science from the University of Hyderabad, India, and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq. He previously served as a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and as a Research Fellow at Bournemouth University, where he continues as a Visiting Fellow until May 2026.

Dr. Rassem’s research focuses on Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Texture Classification, and Digital Watermarking, with applications in medical diagnostics such as early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. His teaching expertise includes Programming, Multimedia, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Web and Mobile Application Development, and Human-Computer Interaction. He is affiliated with the Institute of Digital Research, Communications and Responsible Innovation and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at DMU.

His research projects include Early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s diseases using hybrid deep and machine learning, Modern Fuzzy Min-Max Neural Network for Pattern Classification, and New Secure Hybrid SVD-Based Image Watermarking Scheme. He has led externally funded grants, including an international grant from the University of Hail, Saudi Arabia, and a Ministry of Education grant in Malaysia.

Dr. Rassem has received numerous awards for research, grants, and supervision, including multiple ANUGERAH CENDEKIA BITARA awards, Top 10 Outstanding Grant and Publication Awards at UMP in 2020, and recognition as one of the top supervisors for final-year projects. He is also a recipient of the SANGGAR SANJUNG HALL OF FAME AWARD from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

He is actively involved in research groups focusing on AI and responsible innovation.
