Ulrich Tadday is a full Professor of Musicology (History) at the University of Bremen since 2002, concurrently serving as department director for extended periods. His expertise spans musical aesthetics, historical music studies, and 20th/21st century music. He holds a PhD from the University of Dortmund (1992) and completed Habilitation in 1998 with a monograph on Romantic music aesthetics.
Education includes studies in musicology, pedagogy, German, and philosophy at Universities of Dortmund and Bochum, culminating in a secondary school teaching qualification. Prior to his professorship, he served as a research assistant (1991–1998), high school teacher (1998–2002), and secured grants from DFG and Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Research contributions include over 70 edited volumes, primarily reference works on music (1950–2020), and advisory roles for encyclopedias. He is an active member of national/international musicological associations.
