About
T. Michael Underhill is a Professor in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine. He holds a PhD in Microbiology & Immunology and a BSc in Genetics, both from the University of Western Ontario.
His research program investigates molecular mechanisms underlying skeletal development and remodeling. Key areas include:
- Regulatory networks controlling chondrogenesis and osteogenesis
- Role of retinoid signaling in skeletal cell differentiation
- High-content functional genomics screens for skeletal phenotype modulators
- Therapeutic targeting of skeletal disorders through pathway analysis
Dr. Underhill's recent publications (2010-2015) demonstrate interdisciplinary focus spanning oncology, genetics, and developmental biology. Major themes include molecular mechanisms of synovial sarcoma, genetic basis of brachydactyly, retinoid metabolism in cell differentiation, and mechanobiology of tendon development. Collaborative studies frequently employ genomic/proteomic approaches to dissect disease pathways.
