About
Prof. Dr. Sönke Sievers holds the Chair of International Accounting at the University of Paderborn's Faculty of Economics, Department of Taxation, Accounting & Finance. His research focuses on corporate transparency, financial market information processing, and intangible assets reporting (including software like ChatGPT). As a key member of the TRR 266 Accounting for Transparency (DFG-funded collaborative research center with 100+ researchers), he investigates how accounting and taxation influence corporate transparency and regulatory frameworks.
His research spans three core areas:
- Financial markets information processing - analyzing company valuation techniques and financial statement analysis to improve decision-making for investors and managers
- Auditing - examining audit quality determinants and corporate governance improvements
- Venture capital/Private Equity - studying financing strategies, risk assessments, and performance evaluation mechanisms
Recent research outputs include analyses of market beta determinants, biases in management forecasts, and investment distortions through taxation. While the group actively trains future accounting specialists through doctoral programs, Dr. Christian Sofilkantisch represents a notable former student who now works as a junior professor with tenure track at Nazarbayev University (collaborating with Duke University). The team engages practitioners through guest lectures (e.g., PwC, Horváth & Partner) and emphasizes holistic student development through active learning, empirical research, and practical application of accounting concepts.
