Sze Yan Cheung

Dr. Sze Yan Cheung serves as a Lecturer in the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. Her academic appointment is based at Level Seven, Hughes Building, North Terrace campus.

Her research examines the intricate relationship between physical and mental health, with specialized focus on chronic illness management through biopsychosocial frameworks. Key interest areas include persistent pain conditions, cardiac rehabilitation, cancer survivorship, and the psychological wellbeing of migrant populations facing chronic diseases. She investigates how cultural contexts, acculturation challenges, and language barriers impact healthcare access and treatment outcomes for migrants.

Dr. Cheung actively supervises Honours and Masters research projects, drawing from her clinical background in hospital settings where she previously worked with patients suffering from burn injuries, chronic pain, and cardiac issues. Her work emphasizes collaboration with healthcare professionals, organizations, and policymakers to develop effective strategies that improve patient outcomes and promote health equity.
