Sys Stybe Johansen

Sys Stybe Johansen is an Associate Professor in Forensic Chemistry at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen. He serves as Manager of the Special group for 'Special analysis' and Head of the Graduate programme of RIO (Oral Sciences, Forensic Medicine and Bioanthropology).

Education:

• 1996: Ph.D. in environmental and organic analytical chemistry

Dr. Johansen's research focuses on forensic chemistry in alternative biological matrices such as saliva and hair, analytical chemistry of drugs and drugs of abuse, forensic toxicology, chiral analysis of drugs, and traffic medicine. His work bridges analytical chemistry with forensic applications, particularly in drug analysis and toxicology.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on hair analysis for drug detection, postmortem toxicology, and the analysis of novel psychoactive substances. His research often involves advanced analytical techniques like mass spectrometry for detecting and quantifying drugs in various biological matrices, with particular attention to drug-facilitated sexual assault cases and fatal intoxications.

He previously served as PhD coordinator (2018-2021) and was formerly treasurer of the Danish Society of Forensic Science Teaching.
