Sylvia Kazumi Rijmer is a Resident Professor at the Escola Superior de Dança, part of Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. Her role encompasses teaching contemporary dance and classical ballet, alongside an active career in choreography and performance. She holds certifications from The Juilliard School (BFA in Dance), Elmhurst Ballet School (GCSE), and the Royal Academy of Dance, among others.
Her research interests focus on contemporary dance techniques, classical ballet pedagogy, and experimental choreography. She has created works exploring bodily expression and movement memory, including pieces like Body Memory, 11 Ways to Walk, and Every.Body.Hunts.
Awards:
- Phillip Morris Award at the International Theater School Festival for her performance in Paul Taylor’s Esplanade with the Juilliard Dance Ensemble.
She has taught at institutions globally, including the Conservatory of Music in Coimbra, Balé Teatro Guaíra (Brazil), and Matsumoto Performing Arts Center (Japan).
