Sylvia Checkley

Sylvia Checkley is a Professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, with a half-time appointment at ProvLab. Her career spans clinical veterinary practice, epidemiological research, and academic leadership. She holds a D.V.M. (1992) and Ph.D. (2008) from the University of Saskatchewan.

Her publications reveal expertise in epidemiological modeling, genomic analysis of pathogens, and environmental transmission pathways. She teaches VETM 462: Foreign Animal Disease and has contributed to surveillance systems like the Alberta Veterinary Surveillance Network.
