Syed Ashraf

Prof. Syed Ashraf is a Professor and Chair of Biological Sciences at Khalifa University. With over 19 years in academia and 6 years in biotech drug discovery, he teaches Chemistry and Biochemistry while leading a research group focused on environmental remediation and enzyme engineering. He pioneered undergraduate Cell & Molecular Biology and graduate Molecular Life Sciences programs.

• MSc in Biochemistry and Biophysics (Iowa State University, 1991)
• PhD in Biochemistry (North Carolina State University, 1999)

His research explores bioremediation using bacterial isolates and oxidoreductase enzymes, LC-MSMS-based pollutant detection, and biocomposite development via peroxidase immobilization. Publications (>120) and 4 US patents reflect his contributions to environmental biotechnology and protein science.
