Swati Srivastava is an Associate Professor of Political Science and University Faculty Scholar at Purdue University, with affiliations in technology governance and global politics. Previously, she served as a Visiting Scholar at the Berkman Klein Center's Institute for Rebooting Social Media (2023–24). She holds a PhD from Northwestern University, where she engaged with global studies and legal research.
Her research focuses on private power in global governance, particularly Big Tech’s political influence and AI’s role in international relations. Methodologically, she employs archival data, interviews, and comparative historical analysis. Srivastava leads Purdue’s International Politics and Responsible Tech (iPART) lab, the first qualitative research initiative in her department.
Recognized with prestigious awards from the NEH, Mellon Foundation, and ISA, she also chairs the International Studies Association-Northeast and contributes to the Coalition for Independent Technology Research and New America’s Digital Futures Taskforce. At Purdue, she has earned top research and teaching awards, teaches courses on technology governance and international relations, and advises the Cornerstone liberal arts program.
