About
Sven Reichenberger is a Junior Research Group Leader at the Chair of Technical Chemistry I, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Duisburg-Essen. His research focuses on laser-based synthesis and processing of nanomaterials, particularly for catalysis and energy applications. He holds a PhD ('magna cum laude') from Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and completed a habilitation in 2024 on defect-engineered nanocatalysts. His work explores structure-activity relationships in nanoparticles, with an emphasis on defects and surface modifications. He has received awards including the Young Chemist Award (2018) and ANGEL Decennial Publication Award (2021).
Research interests include laser synthesis, catalytic materials, and defect engineering. His group develops scalable methods for nanoparticle production (e.g., g/h-scale synthesis) and investigates transient laser-material interactions. Collaborations span academia and industry, with contributions to heterogeneous catalysis and energy technologies. He teaches 'Nanopartikel & Kolloide' (WS) and 'Lasermaterialbearbeitung' (SS) in English and German. His lab uses advanced techniques like analytical ultra-centrifugation, XRD, and in-situ methods to study material dynamics.
Awards highlight his contributions to catalysis and nanoparticle science. Current projects include electrocatalytic water splitting and defect-engineered catalysts for fuel cells. Open positions exist for postdocs and students in energy materials and catalysis research.
