Sven Rahmann

Prof. Dr. Sven Rahmann chairs the Algorithmic Bioinformatics group at Saarland University, jointly affiliated with the Mathematics and Informatics Faculty (MI) and the Center for Bioinformatics (ZBI). His research develops computational methods for biological data analysis, specializing in:

• Efficient k-mer counting algorithms (hackgap)
• Chromatin state discovery using hidden Markov models (EpiSegMix)
• Probabilistic data structures for genomics
• Alignment-free sequence analysis

He teaches core courses in Saarland's bioinformatics programs and advises graduate students on genome analysis projects. The lab maintains active collaborations through conference participation and workshops.
