About
Jun.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sven Heiles holds dual roles as Research Group Leader at the Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften (ISAS) and Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen. His research focuses on mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, particularly advancing imaging techniques like MALDI for clinical and biomedical applications. He leads the Lipidomics junior research group, collaborating with the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Faculty of Chemistry.
Education: PhD from Technical University of Darmstadt (2012), followed by postdoctoral research at Justus Liebig University Giessen, where he later served as Junior Head of Research Group.
Research Interests: Refinement of MALDI techniques for clinical lipid analysis, lipidomics in diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disorders, tumors), and host-parasite interactions (e.g., fascioliasis). His work bridges analytical chemistry with biomedical applications, emphasizing structural lipid annotation and imaging.
Publications: Recent work highlights MALDI imaging in parasitic infections, nitro-oleic acid’s role in heart failure, and lipid-matrix interactions. These studies reflect a focus on methodological advancements and translational lipidomics.
Collaborations & Labs: Collaborates with medical centers on lipidome-omics integration. His ISAS-based group develops lipid analysis tools for clinical diagnostics and biomarker discovery.
