About
Suzanne Tank is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta, within the Faculty of Science. She leads the Land-Ocean Biogeochemistry Lab, focusing on understanding biogeochemical processes in freshwater and marine systems, particularly in Arctic and coastal environments. Her research emphasizes carbon and nutrient cycling, permafrost thaw impacts, and climate change effects across land-freshwater-ocean continua.
Her courses, BIOL 442 and 542, explore global biogeochemical cycles through interdisciplinary approaches. She collaborates internationally on projects addressing Arctic change, river chemistry, and permafrost dynamics. Tank’s work integrates field studies with analytical techniques, training students in laboratory, statistical, and experimental methods.
Research highlights include studies on Arctic river trends, permafrost thaw effects, and carbon mobilization from thaw slumps. Her lab’s findings contribute to understanding climate feedback mechanisms and ecosystem resilience. Contact information includes her office at CCIS 2-281 and email suzanne.tank@ualberta.ca.
