About
Suzanne M. Embury is a Reader in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester. She has previously held positions as a Lecturer at Cardiff University and as a Research Fellow at Aberdeen University, where she also earned her PhD in Computer Science. Her academic journey began with a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury in 1990.
Embury's research interests span software testing, agile methodologies, Git workflows, business rules management, data quality, and information integration. She is particularly fascinated by behavior-driven development, especially as linked with the management of data or business rules, problems caused by poor data quality, end-user-oriented techniques for low-cost, fast data integration, and the evolution of data semantics in the form of business rules.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on test smells in open-source projects, analysis of Git workflows, behavior-driven development specifications, and data integration techniques. Her work demonstrates consistent contributions to software engineering methodologies and data quality management over the past decade.
As an academic leader, Embury supervises numerous PhD students and has developed several research projects including the RoboTA Continuous Feedback and Marking project, KTP with Heat Trace Ltd UK, SOURCERY, Red Green Go!, Data Journeys, SEED, and miniRECH. She is also co-founder and director of Imago Software, a student software company.
Embury teaches Agile Software Engineering (COMP33711) and Software Engineering I (COMP23311) at the University of Manchester, contributing significantly to the education of future software engineers.
