Suzan Kardong-Edgren, PhD, RN, is an Associate Professor in the School of Healthcare Leadership at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, specializing in Health Professions Education. Her research focuses on healthcare simulation, educational innovation, and clinical decision-making. She holds leadership roles in organizations like the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), serving as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Simulation in Nursing and a former Vice President of Research at INACSL.
Dr. Edgren’s education includes a BSN from the University of Nevada, Reno; an MS in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University; and a PhD in Health Studies from Texas Woman’s University. Her work emphasizes simulation’s role in replacing traditional clinical hours, as demonstrated in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) National Simulation Study.
Her research interests span simulation efficacy, cultural competence, and clinical judgment. Notable projects include evaluating screen-based simulation for nurse anesthetists and studying workplace incivility interventions using biomarker data. She has published over 140 articles and received prestigious awards, including the NLN President’s Award and dual lectureships from the NLN and SSH.
