Dr. Susmita Saha is a distinguished Research Fellow at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, School of Psychological Sciences, Monash University, and collaborates with the iBRAIN group (Department of Neuroscience). She leads neuroimaging analysis for TRACK-FA, a global study identifying biomarkers for Friedreich Ataxia. Her work focuses on applying AI to neurological disorders, including Huntington’s and epilepsy, using machine learning for predictive analytics and biomarker development.
Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Melbourne (2016), specializing in retinal synaptic circuitry as part of the 'Bionic Eye' project. Previous roles include Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO (2018–2021) and Postdoctoral Researcher at IBM Research Australia (2015–2017).
Research Interests: Medical image analysis, AI-driven healthcare solutions, neurodegenerative diseases, and multimodal biomedical data processing. Current projects include AI-based cerebellum segmentation and functional MRI biomarker derivation using structural data.
Awards: IEEE Outstanding Volunteer Award (2022) and Outstanding Event/Initiative Award (2022) for contributions to the IEEE Women in Engineering Summit. Secured $300k+ in grants and holds six patents.
Leadership: Secretary of IEEE Victorian Section since 2022. Active in collaborative projects with international teams, including the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (USA).
