Sushmita Chandra is a Humboldt Fellow and Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany, within the Topological Quantum Chemistry research group led by Prof. Claudia Felser. She conducts cutting-edge research on 2D quantum materials, focusing on MISFIT layered compounds (MLCs) and their potential for novel electronic and magnetic phenomena.
Her research interests lie in the synthesis and characterization of 2D materials, particularly MLCs, which are natural van der Waals heterostructures. She is investigating the coexistence of complementary physical phenomena such as charge density waves, superconductivity, and ferroelectricity in these materials. Her work aims to engineer the properties of MLCs by controlling layer thickness and composition for applications in next-generation quantum devices.
Sushmita Chandra is supported by the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. Her research involves the fabrication of nanodevices from exfoliated single crystals and the measurement of their electrical and thermal transport properties under extreme conditions of temperature and magnetic field.
