Susanne Sandberg is an Associate Professor at Linnaeus University's School of Business and Economics, Department of Marketing and Tourism Studies. She serves as Program Director for the International Business bachelor's program (2024 onward) and previously led both the bachelor's (2012-2021) and master's (2013-2022) International Business programs. She is a member of the faculty board since 2010 and part of the Center for International Business Studies on Emerging Markets (CIBEM) and the Regional Digital Transformation (REDIT) research group.
Her research focuses on international business, with specialization in international marketing, strategy, and entrepreneurship. Key areas include SME internationalization into emerging markets, refugee and transnational entrepreneurship, and business resilience during turbulent times. Her work examines how small and medium enterprises navigate international markets, with particular attention to experiential knowledge, network configurations, and the impact of political turbulence on internationalization processes.
Dr. Sandberg's recent publications reveal a strong focus on disadvantaged entrepreneurs, authentic leadership, and experiential value propositions, while maintaining her foundational work on SME internationalization. Her research increasingly incorporates migration studies perspectives, particularly examining refugee entrepreneurship and transnational business activities.
She has served on editorial boards for International Journal of Business and Globalization and contributed to special issues on migrant entrepreneurship. Dr. Sandberg has been actively involved in organizing academic conferences, most recently the McGill International Entrepreneurship conference in Kalmar (August 2023).
Her externally funded projects include Erasmus+ initiatives for PhD training, NOS Workshop funds from Vetenskapsrådet for migrant entrepreneurship research, and KK Foundation support for program development. She has also led projects examining transnational entrepreneurial firms, refugee entrepreneurship, and internationalization of startups through incubators.
Dr. Sandberg actively collaborates with industry through live cases in her courses and presentations for organizations like Kalmarsund Promotion, Rotary, and CIL. Her teaching includes 'International Business Strategy,' 'Global Challenges and Opportunities,' and 'Internationalization of Entrepreneurial Firms,' with supervision of bachelor's, master's, and PhD theses.
