Susanne Mueller, MD, is a Professor of Radiology and Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. She leads the Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Her expertise spans neuroimaging, neuroscience, and neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on dementia, epilepsy, and Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Mueller holds an MD from the University of Zurich and completed neurology residencies in Switzerland followed by a Radiology fellowship at UCSF.
Her research focuses on advanced MRI/MRS techniques for early dementia diagnosis, neurodegeneration mechanisms, and epilepsy. She has pioneered studies on hippocampal subfield volumetry and brainstem network disruptions. Dr. Mueller serves on 17 journals' editorial boards, reviews grants for 5 foundations, and is a member of 4 professional societies.
Her awards include the Swiss National Science Foundation Grant for Young Researchers (2000) and the International League Against Epilepsy Young Investigator Award (1999). Over 150 peer-reviewed articles highlight her work in imaging biomarkers, Alzheimer's pathology, and PTSD/TBI neurobiology.
