Susan Salas

Susan Salas serves as a Full-Time Lecturer and Director of Field Education at the School of Social Work, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she has taught undergraduate and graduate seminars since 2004 and led field education since July 2016.

Her educational credentials include:

• Ed.D. from California State University, Long Beach (2014)
• M.S.S.W. from Columbia University, New York (1992)
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker certification (1997)

Dr. Salas specializes in community mental health with children and families, particularly within Latino populations, and maintains macro-level expertise in social policy reform through NASW Legislative Lobby Days coordination. Her advocacy extends to Southern California Native American communities, focusing on cultural rights and sacred site preservation. She has developed field education curricula and instructor training programs while directing Title IV-E Child Welfare initiatives.

As Director of Field Education, she oversees CalSWEC Title IV-E field consultation and manages multiple stipend programs including Child Welfare BASW/MSW, Geriatric Social Work Education Consortium, LA DCFS/LAC DMH stipends, Certified Wellness Coach II, and Strengthening Youth Resilience initiatives.
