Susan Paulson

Susan Paulson serves as Professor at the University of Florida's Center for Latin American Studies, bringing 15 years of immersive fieldwork experience across South America including academic roles at CESU (Bolivia), CBC (Perú), and FLACSO-Ecuador. Previously, she directed Miami University's Latin American Studies program for 7 years and co-founded Lund University's graduate program in Culture, Power and Sustainability.

Her research investigates critical intersections of:

• Gender, class, and ethnoracial systems with biophysical environments
• Political ecology frameworks for conservation and development
• Emerging degrowth paradigms versus sustainability science
• Environmental social movement dynamics
• Rural territorial transformations in Latin America

Geographically anchored in the Andes and Atlantic Forest of Brazil, her work employs comparative methodologies across Latin America. Current projects involve international interdisciplinary collaboration on rural territorial dynamics and degrowth theory-building. She teaches core courses including "Power and Environment: Political Ecology Perspectives," "Research Methods in Latin American Studies," and "Environmental Social Movements in Latin America."
