Professor Susan Parekh serves as Professor of Paediatric Dentistry at University College London's Eastman Dental Institute, where she directs the MSc in Paediatric Dentistry and coordinates the DDent in Paediatric Dentistry programs. With appointments dating back to 2004 at the Eastman Dental Institute, she holds both academic and clinical positions as an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry.
Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy from University College London (2011), Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2011), Master of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2002), Master of Clinical Dentistry from University of London (2001), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery from University of Edinburgh (1993). Professor Parekh's research focuses on the diagnosis and management of dental anomalies, particularly enamel and dentine defects, the role of genetics in dental conditions, and pain relief for child patients. Her scholarly work spans genetic dental disorders like amelogenesis imperfecta and dentinogenesis imperfecta, molar incisor hypomineralisation, and osteogenesis imperfecta. She has contributed significantly to clinical guidelines development through the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD).
Her publication portfolio demonstrates consistent scholarly output with 83 publications, including systematic reviews in the Cochrane Database and numerous clinical studies. Recent work shows particular emphasis on establishing clinical networks for rare dental conditions, developing standardized outcome measures, and investigating ultrastructural aspects of dental tissue defects.
As Programme Director for the MSc in Paediatric Dentistry, Professor Parekh plays a key role in training the next generation of specialists in this field.
