Susan Norman

Susan Ayotte Norman is a Lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where she has taught first-year writing since 2015. She specializes in Narrative Theory and American Literature, with a focus on narrative perspective in speculative fiction. Dr. Norman teaches in the Hilltop Scholars Program and regular sections of Academic Writing, emphasizing writing as a form of critical thinking. She holds a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Dallas, where her dissertation explored speculative fiction’s narrative structures.

Her creative work includes fiction and essays, published in various journals and featured in Short Edition’s global short story 'vending machines.' She has received prestigious fellowships from the Sewanee Writer’s Conference, Jentel Foundation, and Juniper Writer’s Conference, highlighting her contributions to creative writing.
