Susan Matulevicius, M.D., M.S.C.S., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. She specializes in noninvasive cardiac imaging (echocardiography, MRI), women’s heart health, and cardiovascular disease prevention. She also serves as Associate Dean of Faculty Wellness, mentoring cardiology trainees and collaborating on research in cardiac MRI. Her research focuses on pregnancy-related cardiac changes, chronic heart failure, and optimizing diagnostic testing in clinical care.
Dr. Matulevicius earned a B.S.E. (magna cum laude) in biomedical engineering from Duke University and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she joined Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and fellowships in cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging at Parkland Health & Hospital System.
Her awards include the 2013 Jeremiah Stamler Distinguished Young Investigator Award and recognition as a 2018 Texas Monthly 'Super Doctor.' She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and active in the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.
Dr. Matulevicius has reviewed for journals like Journal of Investigative Medicine and International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, and contributed to over 28 peer-reviewed publications. She advocates for high-value care through initiatives like the Costs of Care competition and focuses on improving faculty well-being through her administrative roles.
