Susan Long

Susan Long is an Affiliated Scholar in Psychology at Lake Forest College. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2009), specializing in Community and Prevention Research, with minors in Statistical Methods. Her research focuses on violence against women, institutional responses to violence, and community-based interventions. She has conducted evaluations for programs like Freedom From Trafficking and ups2us, funded by grants such as the Mellon Foundation and ACM FaCE Grant. Long teaches courses including Community Psychology, Gender-Based Violence, and Research Methods. She has published extensively on topics like homeless abused women’s coping strategies and sexual assault survivor experiences. Awards include the Harry S. Upshaw Excellence in Teaching Award (2008) and a Macalester College honor (2001). Her work bridges academic research, clinical advocacy, and policy impact.
