Susan Jacoby is an Associate Professor in the Bachelor of Midwifery (B-Mid) program at Mount Royal University's Faculty of Health, Community & Education. With 40 years of experience as a healthcare provider and educator, she specializes in midwifery education, global health, and vulnerable populations. Her research focuses on female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), water birth safety, perineal lacerations, and midwifery education in Ethiopia and globally.
Dr. Jacoby holds a Doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Health Professions and CNM/RM credentials from Oregon Health & Sciences University. Her recent work includes a WHO sabbatical contributing to the Year of the Nurse and Midwife 2020, co-creating the play 'Born in the Ruins' to highlight midwives in conflict zones.
Her scholarship spans interprofessional collaboration in Canadian healthcare, Somali immigrant health literacy, and maternal-child mortality reduction strategies. She actively serves on Alberta Health Services committees addressing marginalized women and water birth practices.
