Susan Hunt is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions at Australian National University. She holds a PhD in Environmental Science, MPubPol, and BA (Social Welfare). Her work focuses on disaster resilience policy, community-led systems for flood monitoring, and mental health support for emergency services workers. Previously, she spent two decades in the Australian Public Service (APS) developing national disaster management and mental health policies.
Her research interests include community resilience, public policy, behavioral economics, and evaluation practice. She has contributed to national recovery strategies post-disasters like Tropical Cyclone Yasi and led development of Australia's first national mental health plan for emergency services workers. Key roles included Secretariat for Australian and New Zealand Emergency Management Committee and work on the National Emergency Management Program.
Her publications emphasize adaptive governance, business roles in disaster resilience, and measuring community resilience. Susan has collaborated with organizations like Natural Hazards Research Australia and co-authored the Australian Emergency Management Series: Community Recovery Handbook.
