Susan Hopp

Susan Hopp is the Dean of the School of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a role she has held since 2023. Previously, she served as Chair (2022–2023) and Associate Chair (2018–2022) of Foundation Studies. Her academic career includes roles as Professor (2016–2018) at SCAD and Adjunct Professor (2015–2016) at Metropolitan State University and Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

Her education includes an M.F.A. in Visual Arts from Lesley University, an M.A. in Sculpture from West Virginia University, and a B.F.A. in Painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She has received notable recognition, including the Vermont Studio Center Residency Scholarship (2010), a Departmental Painting Award (1993), and inclusion in the Louvre’s Digital Exhibition (2015).

Hopp’s research and creative work focus on contemporary visual arts, sculpture, and pedagogical practices. Her exhibitions span venues like the Whitefield Center, Remarque Print Studio, and the Lunder Arts Center, exploring themes such as image proliferation, materiality, and design principles. Recent presentations include workshops on professional presentations and teaching methodologies at SCAD.

Her publications include contributions to Lesley University’s PROCESS and W.I.P. Zine, along with catalog essays for institutions like the New Mexico Museum of Art and the Albuquerque Museum. Awards highlight her academic and creative impact, while her teaching emphasizes foundational art practices and critical thinking.
