Susan Edmunds

Susan Edmunds is a Professor of English at Syracuse University in the College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on U.S. modernism, twentieth-century American fiction, and intersections of literature with political and cultural frameworks like the welfare state and racial theory.

• Ph.D. in English from Yale University (1991)
• B.A. in English from Yale University (1983)

Her recent scholarly work explores spiritual and philosophical dimensions in contemporary literature, particularly examining Don DeLillo's White Noise through the lens of Eastern religious texts. She has presented conference papers on topics such as postwar urban entrapment narratives and modernist reimaginings of literary classics.

Professor Edmunds teaches graduate and undergraduate courses including Contemporary US Fiction, Race and Literary Periods, and Modern US Fiction, with a pedagogical emphasis on critical race theory, immigrant literature, and post-1945 American fiction.
