Susan Cunningham is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross and serves as Associate Director for Concentrations at the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1986. Her expertise focuses on sociology, particularly children and violence, women and drinking, and family dynamics. She teaches courses such as Children and Violence, Girls and Violence, and The Sociology of Poverty. Her research includes quantitative analyses of child maltreatment and its societal consequences, with a notable article published in the Journal of Family Issues (2011). Her syllabus on Children and Violence was recognized as a finalist by the Guggenheim Foundation for promoting nationwide college-level violence education. She is also affiliated with interdisciplinary programs including Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies.
