Surupa Gupta is a Professor and Program Director of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on International Political Economy, South Asian politics, Indian foreign policy, and gender development issues. She has held significant roles such as founding member and section chair of South Asia in World Politics under the International Studies Association, and serves as Managing Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Indian Politics and Policy.
Her scholarly contributions span analyses of India’s trade relations with the U.S., macroeconomic policies, IMF engagements, and regional trade dynamics in South Asia. She has also explored the intersection of agriculture policy and global trade frameworks, particularly India’s food security interests at the WTO. Her work frequently intersects with gender dimensions in development contexts.
