About
Sumeda Nandadasa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UMass Chan Medical School. His laboratory investigates the role of ADAMTS metalloproteinases in embryonic development and ciliopathies - developmental disorders caused by defective primary cilia formation.
Research focuses on:
- Cellular and molecular mechanisms of metalloproteinase regulation of ciliogenesis
- Identification of novel extracellular matrix substrates involved in disease pathogenesis
- Mouse models of human ciliopathies
His work has been recognized with the Mark Lauer Pediatric Research Grant Award and Excellence in Postdoctoral Research Award. Current research employs super-resolution microscopy, CRISPR gene editing, organoid disease modeling, and high-resolution proteomics to study ciliopathy mechanisms in kidney development, neural tube formation, and vasculogenesis.
