Suman Das holds the Morris M. Bryan, Jr. Chair in Mechanical Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing Systems and is Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech. He joined Georgia Tech in 2007 after serving as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
As Director of the Direct Digital Manufacturing Laboratory, his interdisciplinary research spans advanced design, prototyping, direct digital manufacturing (including 3D printing and interference lithography), and materials processing for applications in life sciences, propulsion, and energy. His work targets novel processing techniques for advanced materials and manufacturing methods for high-performance devices.
Research has been funded by DARPA, NSF, NIH, NRL, ONR, and Rolls-Royce, with focus areas in ceramics, composites, metals, polymers, and manufacturing challenges in health, energy, and transportation infrastructure.
