About
Suljo Linic is the Class of 1983 Faculty Scholar Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He holds a PhD in Surface and Colloidal Chemistry from the University of Delaware (2003) and completed postdoctoral research at the Fritz Haber Institute (Berlin) under Matthias Scheffler. His research focuses on theoretical and experimental studies of surface chemistry in catalytic, electro-, and photo-catalytic systems, aiming to develop predictive models for energy-related chemical transformations.
Linic’s work integrates first principles electronic structure calculations with experimental tools like surface science and in-situ reactor studies. He has pioneered investigations into plasmonic nanostructures for solar-to-chemical energy conversion, earning over 20 prestigious awards including the Paul H. Emmett Award (NACS) and ACS Catalysis Lectureship. His TUM-IAS fellowship (2014) supported collaborative research in chemical catalysis with Karsten Reuter at TU Munich.
Key achievements include uncovering mechanisms for plasmon-mediated reactions, designing nanostructured catalysts for enhanced selectivity, and advancing understanding of energetic charge carrier dynamics. His interdisciplinary approach bridges materials science, quantum chemistry, and applied catalysis, addressing challenges in renewable energy and sustainable chemical processes.
