Sujitha Subramanian

Dr Sujitha Subramanian is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Associate Head of Department at the University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice (part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences). She holds an LLM in International Trade and Finance Law from the University of Aberdeen and completed doctoral research on intellectual property rights at the University of East Anglia. Since 2008, she has been a full-time academic with extensive teaching experience across UK and international institutions including Bristol, Aberystwyth, and Wroclaw University.

Her research focuses on intellectual property law's intersections with competition law, public health, cultural heritage, and emerging technologies. Key areas include IP and free speech, access to medicines, digital privacy, and AI governance. She currently serves on the European Public Health Association's Access to Medicines Working Group and the University of Liverpool's Central Research Ethics Committee since 2017.

Professional roles include external examiner at Newcastle University, reviewer for British Council research programs, and advisor to the American Bar Association on free speech issues. She has held leadership roles such as Internationalization Coordinator at Liverpool and Deputy Director of Erasmus Study Programs at the University of Bristol.

Teaching includes modules on intellectual property, competition law, and digital justice, with a focus on integrating research into pedagogy. Supervised PhD topics address blockchain in copyright, EU competition law privacy, and text/data mining challenges in IP frameworks.
