Sujit Dey

Sujit Dey is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he also serves as Director of the Center for Wireless Communications and the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur. He leads the Mobile Systems Design Laboratory, focusing on transformative technologies for 5G/6G, edge computing, connected health, and smart cities. He holds an adjunct professorship at the Rady School of Management and the Jacobs Family Endowed Chair in Engineering Management Leadership.

His research interests span Wireless Communications, Edge Computing, Connected Health, Green Computing, Mobile Cloud Computing, Predictive Analytics, Smart Cities, Smart Transportation, and X-Reality. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary innovation, integrating deep learning, sensor fusion, and energy-efficient system design to enable next-generation applications in health, mobility, and manufacturing.

With over 250 publications and 20 patents, Dr. Dey's scholarly output reflects sustained leadership in mobile systems and sustainable computing. His research trends indicate a strong focus on real-world deployment, commercialization, and bridging academic innovation with entrepreneurial impact.

Dr. Dey has advised numerous students and led major research programs including the Connected Health Program (2016) and Smart Transportation Innovation Program (2018). He has secured significant research funding through industry partnerships and grants, with a strong record of technology transfer, commercialization, and startup formation. He co-founded igrenEnergi (2015) and founded Ortiva Wireless (2004), which was acquired by Allot Communications. He also served as Chief Scientist at Allot and Faculty Director of the von Liebig Entrepreneurism Center (2013–2015).

He leads the Mobile Systems Design Laboratory at UCSD, which collaborates across schools, industry, and city partners to develop scalable, intelligent systems for health, transportation, and energy. The lab fosters innovation through interdisciplinary teams and real-world testbeds.
