Sujin Bao, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pikeville. She holds appointments in teaching core bioscience courses including Biochemistry, Genetics, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Human Cell Biology. Her academic background includes a B.Sc. in Engineering from Dalian University of Technology (1985-1989), M.Sc. in Thermophysics Engineering from Tsinghua University (1989-1992), and Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1992-1996). She completed postdoctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine (2001-2007) and Mount Sinai School of Medicine (2007-2009).
Her research focuses on two primary areas: investigating noncoding RNAs' roles in memory processes and advancing medical education through curriculum development and assessment methodologies. Her experimental work has explored cell adhesion mechanisms in Drosophila eye development, kidney podocyte function, and gastrointestinal microbiology.
