Dr. Sujatha Sosale is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She has held roles such as Director of Graduate Studies and served on various committees including the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) and the University's Fulbright Program selection board. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Her research focuses on media and social change in Global South countries, particularly in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa, with an emphasis on postcolonial contexts and media technology's role in development and social issues. She teaches courses on global media, research methods, and digital storytelling, both traditionally and online.
Her research interests include analyzing news reporting on development, trade agreements, and national identity, as well as the integration of digital technologies in postcolonial societies. She has explored topics such as Facebook’s Free Basics initiative in India, digital media’s role during disasters, and the historical political economy of communication technologies.

- Professional Service: Past Head of IAMCR’s International Communication Section (2007-2012), current member of the College’s Faculty Assembly.
Dr. Sosale is involved with the Global Media Studies Center and contributes to the Visual Media Lab at the University of Iowa. Her work bridges theoretical and applied aspects of media studies, emphasizing global perspectives and community engagement.
