Sue Earnest served as Professor and Chair of Speech Pathology and Audiology at San Diego State University (SDSU) for 18 years during her 26-year tenure. She co-founded the Children's Speech and Language Clinic and established similar clinical programs at Balboa Naval Medical Center. Earnest earned all her degrees from California institutions: BA from San Diego Normal School (predecessor to SDSU), MA from SDSU, and PhD from University of Southern California.
Her professional legacy includes leadership in national organizations including the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and United Cerebral Palsy. Post-retirement, she served as president of the SDSU Alumni Association and Friends of the Library. Her philanthropic contributions include commissioning the statue of SDSU's first president, Samuel T. Black.
Honors recognizing her community and academic impact include multiple distinguished alumni awards and national Mortar Board recognition.
