Dr Susan Carson is Conservatorium Coordinator and Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle with expertise in multi-genre vocal performance and pedagogy. Her research examines performance practice across classical, jazz, folk and contemporary styles.
Qualifications include:
- PhD in Music from University of Newcastle
- Licentiate of Music (Australian Music Examinations Board)
- Bachelor of Arts (French/Drama)
Research focuses on developing evidence-based vocal pedagogies through analysis of professional practice, particularly investigating technical approaches for singing multiple genres. Current project 'The Future of Music Education' explores student pathways from secondary school to industry.
Creative output includes 40+ performances and recordings spanning classical soprano roles (Queen of the Night, Cunegonde), music theatre (Mrs Lovett, Margaret White), and folk/country (Sligo Maid, Love That Hat).
