About
Dr. Sue Baron is a Principal Academic in Nursing and Programme Lead for the MSc Adult Nursing at Bournemouth University. A Registered Nurse and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she directs research on simulation-based education, palliative/end-of-life care, and service user involvement. Her work develops realistic learning experiences co-created with patients, carers, and practitioners to enhance nursing students' clinical skills and empathy.
Current research includes international studies on virtual clinical environments' impact on medication calculation accuracy, digital resources for preparing students for patient death experiences, and simulation effectiveness for recognizing patient deterioration. She co-created the 'Empathic Care of a Person with Cerebral Palsy' simulation tool based on lived experience, now used internationally.
Dr. Baron's research emphasizes co-production with service users to inform healthcare improvement, including studies on early termination experiences and student abortion perceptions. She supervises PhD candidates investigating lived experiences in palliative care, prison healthcare, and nutritional services.
Publications focus on clinical leadership development, patient-centered care models, and simulation methodologies. Recent work examines international nursing standards, palliative care experiences in liver disease, and leadership behaviors across educational systems.
