Sudipta Basu is a Professor of Accounting and the Stanley Merves Chair at Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management. He specializes in financial accounting, accounting evolution, and international accounting. Basu has held leadership roles including Associate Dean for Research and Doctoral Programs, Research Director of the Translational Research Center (TRC), and chairs committees like the Promotion and Tenure Review Committee. He earned a PhD from the University of Rochester, an MBA from IIM Calcutta, and a BA (Honors) in Economics from the University of Delhi.
His research focuses on conservatism in earnings reporting, the co-evolution of accounting with economic systems, and ESG disclosures. Notable awards include the AAA 2012 Distinguished Contribution Award and the inaugural 2023 AACSB-AAA-RRBM Award for exposing the unreliability of bank ESG ratings. He has authored over 100 publications in top journals like The Accounting Review and Journal of Accounting and Economics.
Basu’s work bridges historical accounting practices with modern challenges, exploring topics such as bank competition, risk-taking behaviors, and neuroaccounting’s cognitive foundations.
