Dr. Subhashni Appanna is a Lecturer in Education (Science) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the School of Teacher Education and Leadership (STEL) within the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education, and Social Justice (CIESJ). Her research focuses on student emotions in science education, science inquiry pedagogies, and teacher training. She holds a doctoral degree and has extensive experience in high school and tertiary science teaching, alongside roles as a research assistant in emotion studies at QUT.
Her academic background includes undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in science, complemented by research support roles in science education. She is a member of the STEM Education Research Group (2018–present) and has published widely on science education, emotions in learning, and online pedagogies. Dr. Appanna also serves as a reviewer for journals like Research in Science Education and Cultural Studies of Science Education.

She explores preservice teachers’ epistemic cognition and strategies for navigating misinformation, alongside integrating Indigenous perspectives into science curricula. Earlier work includes studies on Fiji’s marine ecosystems, focusing on sea urchin biology and bioerosion patterns.
Dr. Appanna has received the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship. Her teaching contributions include guiding secondary preservice teachers and designing curricula that align with student emotional needs. Collaborative projects, such as investigating online information use in teacher education, further highlight her commitment to advancing science education practices.
