About
Subhadeep Gupta is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Physics at the University of Washington. He leads the Ultracold Atoms and Quantum Gases group, focusing on experimental studies of ultracold atomic systems, quantum dynamics, and precision interferometry. His research leverages ultracold bosonic and fermionic atoms to explore quantum phenomena like strongly-interacting systems, few-body physics, and quantum simulation.
- Education: B.A., Colgate University; Ph.D., MIT (2003); Postdoc, UC Berkeley.
- Affiliations: Fellow of the American Physical Society (2021); Recipient of the UW Physics Department Mentoring Award (2015).
Research Interests: His work spans ultracold quantum gases, quantum metrology, and atom optics. Key projects include developing precision atom interferometers for measuring fundamental constants and studying many-body dynamics in kicked systems. Recent advancements include observing dynamical delocalization in ultracold gases and exploring interaction-driven transitions in quantum gases.
Awards & Grants: Supported by NSF, Army MURI, and AFOSR grants. Notable achievements include the Nature Physics publication on many-body dynamical delocalization (2022) and EPJ Quantum Technology work on long-baseline interferometry (2025).
Advising & Lab: Mentored over 30 students and postdocs. Current lab efforts focus on quantum simulation and precision measurements. Past members hold positions at institutions like MIT, NASA-JPL, and top universities.
