Stuart Turvey

Stuart Turvey is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy and Immunology at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine. He serves as an Investigator at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute where he leads the Turvey Lab. His academic appointments include the prestigious Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Precision Health and the Aubrey J. Tingle Professorship of Pediatric Immunology.

Dr. Turvey's research focuses on understanding the cellular, molecular and genetic abnormalities responsible for immunological diseases in children. His work aims to develop new strategies to treat and prevent these conditions through precision health approaches. His primary research areas include immunology, microbiology, asthma, immune system function, immunodeficiencies, and microbiome studies.

As a supervisor, he works with graduate students across multiple degree programs including Experimental Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Women+ and Children's Health Sciences at both Master's and Doctoral levels. His research falls under the Healthy Starts theme at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute.

Dr. Turvey has received significant recognition including the Canada Research Chair position and the Aubrey J. Tingle Professorship, highlighting his contributions to pediatric immunology research.

His clinical research interests span a wide range of pediatric health issues including air pollution effects, antibiotic use, arthritis, asthma, birth defects, cystic fibrosis, and juvenile arthritis, with particular focus on how these factors interact with the immune system in children.

The Turvey Lab is located at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute on the Oak Street campus, where his team conducts research to determine the underlying mechanisms of immunological diseases with the goal of improving treatment and prevention strategies for children.
