About
Dr. Stuart Thickett is an Associate Professor and Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow in the Discipline of Chemistry at the University of Tasmania's School of Natural Sciences. His research focuses on polymer and materials chemistry, particularly in polymer kinetics, 'green' synthesis methods, and colloidal nanocomposites. He holds a Ph.D. and BSc from the University of Sydney and has held academic roles at the University of Queensland, University of Toronto, and UNSW Sydney.
**Education**:
- BSc (Adv) (Hons), University of Sydney (2004)
- Ph.D., University of Sydney (2008)
- GradCertULT, University of New South Wales (2014)
**Research Interests**: Stuart’s work spans polymer synthesis, heterogeneous polymerization, and applications in 3D printing materials. He collaborates with researchers globally on topics like bio-derived polymers, graphene composites, and sustainable solvents.
**Awards**:
- ARC Future Fellowship (2022)
- Royal Society of Chemistry’s Pioneering Investigator in Polymer Chemistry (2019)
**Teaching & Engagement**: Stuart teaches physical and analytical chemistry, redesigning laboratory programs. He coordinates the Australian Polymer Summer School and chairs the RACI Polymer Division’s awards committee.
**Grants**: Active projects include bio-derived polymers (Westpac, $119k), green polymer synthesis (ARC, $942k), and marine bioproducts (CRC, $59M).
**Labs & Teams**: Collaborations with Prof. Alex Bissember (photoredox catalysis), Prof. Michael Breadmore (3D printing), and Prof. Per Zetterlund (UNSW) on graphene composites.
